Ethnic Rhinoplasty & Nasal Surgery
Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Glendale
Ethnic rhinoplasty is a large part of Dr. Bublik’s practice and he has many years of experience with Hispanic rhinoplasty, Asian rhinoplasty, Middle Eastern rhinoplasty and African American rhinoplasty. According to statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, racial and ethnic minorities accounted for approximately 21 percent of all cosmetic procedures performed in 2011.
Dr. Bublik believes that every patient is unique. There are tremendous differences among different ethnic groups, and there are significant variations within the same ethnic group of patients. Regardless of your background, Dr. Bublik strives to maintain your ethnic look while improving outstanding features. Ethnic rhinoplasty subtly enhances the appearance of a person’s nose without erasing specific ethnic facial characteristics. A successful surgery will draw attention to a person’s eyes, not nose.
Here is a simplistic representation and categorization of “non-Caucasian rhinoplasty:”
- Caucasian: Anglo Saxon, Germanic, Latin (Greek, Roman, French), Slavic, Mediterranean
- African American
- Asian: North American, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Filipino
- Middle Eastern: Persian/Iranian, Arab, Indian, Pakistani
- Hispanic: Castilian, Mexican American, Mestizo
Dr. Bublik is able to preserve his patients’ unique ethnic heritage without completely “westernizing” their noses. On occasion, some patients will want more of a westernized nose, but through digital morphing and imaging, Dr. Bublik is able to demonstrate the anticipated post-operative result prior to surgery. Dr. Bublik does not believe in a cookie cutter approach to rhinoplasty and therefore tailors every surgery individually through a very comprehensive and thorough consultation, especially for patients with different ethnic backgrounds and surgical goals. In his unique Comprehensive Ethnic Rhinoplasty Consultation, Dr. Bublik will spend a significant amount of time discussing your aesthetics and functional concerns. A careful nasal and facial exam will be conducted in conjunction with state of the art “digital morphing and imaging.” Special attention will be made to the lips and chin, as these features can have a significant impact on the perception of the nose. A digital morphing software photographic system is used to devise a plan that is most appropriate and to ensure you and Dr. Bublik agree on the desired results
Ethnic Rhinoplasty – Case Study by Dr. Michael Bublik
Clinical History: This young male patient wanted a refinement of his nasal profile, straightening of the crooked appearance of his nose while still keeping some ethnicity to his nose. He also had breathing problems due to a deviated septum and large inferior turbinates. He underwent rhinoplasty, septoplasty, and turbinate reduction. Looking at the “base” view (which is from the bottom of the nose), one can appreciate how crooked his nose appeared prior to surgery. This was corrected along with the droopy tip and large nasal bump.
